Commerce Police Chief, Kerry Crews - The Latest Victim of Social Justice Warriors

From the years of 2002 to 2008, I attended college at Texas A&M University – Commerce, in Commerce, Texas. Until 2005, I was your typical off-campus commuter student, living at my parents' house 20 miles away. But in 2005, I joined a fraternity at TAMU-C as a last resort to get myself involved on campus, before taking a more extreme measure, like transferring out of state to attend a college close to one of my childhood friends.

Most of you who follow my page know that I am a huge supporter of law enforcement, and have been pretty outspoken about accusations against officers, as I discussed in my article “Law Enforcement, Racism and the Media”. So when reports of a “racial incident” involving Commerce Police Chief, Kerry Crews first began showing up in the news and on social media a few weeks ago, I was pretty quick to lend my voice both on my blog page and my personal page to supporting him.

You see, on Saturday, May 20th, former “Miss Black Texas”, and TAMU-C student, Carmen Ponder, accused Chief Crews of calling her a “black bitch”, after she had confronted him over supposedly allowing his underage child to drive erratically in front of her.

Immediately, there were calls from the “social justice warriors” to terminate Chief Crews from the Commerce Police Department, and charge him with any form of hate crime for his “atrocities”, which conveniently fit perfectly with the SJW's “all police officers are racist pigs” rhetoric.

Here's the problem though; it wasn't Chief Crews who had the confrontation with Miss Ponder. In fact, he had nothing to do with the incident. It just so happened that Chief Crews was off duty and was shopping at the same store that Miss Ponder and the other gentleman were visiting. And to make matters worse, Chief Crews, by some accounts, looks somewhat similar to the other gentleman (who shall remain un-named for now).

Regardless of the facts, the “anti-cop” militia rose up on social media and began attacking Crews' credibility, based on nothing more than the fact that he was a white police officer and the alleged “victim” was black. To these people, these facts were all they needed to justify their attempt to ruin this man.

In typical “SJW” fashion, they didn't stop there – they went on to even make threats of physical harm against his family, while Miss Ponder spent her time setting up a crowd-funding account to raise money for the defense against her alleged victim status, based on blatant lies, since she ended up going to jail after losing her cool (which I'm not sure was ever present) and resisting arrest.

<><><>

During my tenure as a Greek student at TAMU-C, I'm not going to lie; we got into more than our share of trouble. And whether it was underage drinking, an alleged kidnapping attempt, or some other fraternity prank, Chief Crews, the Commerce Police Department and the Campus Police Department always seemed to be at least a couple steps ahead of us. It was almost as if they had been dealing with drunk college kids for years!

But regardless of our inebriated indiscretions, Chief Crews and his officers treated us with the utmost respect, regardless of the race or gender of those who might have been involved. Even though there were certainly incidents where people were arrested, looking back on it, the charges were probably justified most of the time.

<><><>

As a former TAMU-C student, I could very easily hop on the “anti-Crews” bandwagon and attack the man's credibility. I could share partial-truths that made me seem like a victim of his bigoted biases. But the problem is, unlike the people ignoring the facts while screaming for his termination, I have a conscience.

Here's the deal; Chief Kerry Crews is a good man. When I was a student in Commerce, he and his officers had every opportunity to ruin the lives of myself and many others. But he didn't do it. Sure, I might have disliked him when I was a student, but to be totally fair here, I was a “late-teens/early-twenties” college student who thought that I and my friends were above the law.

Looking back on it, Kerry Crews did me a favor. And if this man could tolerate the drunken atrocities he was subjected to by my Greek brothers and sisters without losing his cool, I assure you that he could handle one difficult spoiled little princess in a parking lot, no matter the color of her skin.

<><><>

I hate when I can't end my articles on a positive note, but this time, it unfortunately is unavoidable. It was announced this week that even though Chief Crews had been exonerated of any wrong-doing by the private investigation, he was submitting his resignation to the City Council. His statement essentially said that he could no longer handle the stress of the position as Police Chief. But I think it's pretty fair to say that he would have kept on fighting the good fight if it wasn't for these false allegations and threats made against him and his family.

Chief Crews didn't resign because he did something wrong; he resigned because of false accusations of racial discrimination. He resigned because of idiotic social justice warriors, who believe that all law enforcement officers are guilty until proven innocent, but then refuse to accept any findings that exonerate the officer.

Chief Crews resigned because he was bullied – plain and simple. And you know what? I don't blame him!

Just because Crews is a white officer and was unintentionally involved in this situation involving the arrest of a black student, his credibility would have been brought into question from now on. Any time he was connected in any way to the arrest of someone who happened to be a minority, this incident would be brought up in an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

No matter how right he and his officers might have been, as long as he was with the police department, because of the unfounded accusations, his credibility would have always been a factor. Regardless of his years of service in the Commerce community, it is unlikely that he could ever be seen publicly as a respected member of the Commerce community. And you know what? That is a damn shame!

Good luck, Kerry Crews.

And Carmen Ponder, you're a bad person.

    2. Everyone of you people who support Crews and his bad judgement are delusional. White privilege should not allow or excuse him or any of you from behaving like an ahole and disrespecting this woman or any woman. Crews had no recourse but to resign because ge knew he was out of line and anyone who's judgement is that bad should not be trusted to wear the uniform. You people are so in denial that you have lost touch with reality. Your white privilege will do that.

    3. "White privilege" literally had nothing to do with this. Quit race-baiting. The only racists involved were the ones who started making threats against Crews & his family while ignoring facts, only because he was a white officer.

  8. Unfortunately there are more takers in this country then givers'. That has only changed in the last 10 years or so. Kerry was a giver, and gave of himself for his entire adult life. He weighed things by what's better for my community, not what's best for me. Ms. Ponder is a taker. She believes that the community owes her something, and thus ask herself... What is better for ME. The entire SJW movement is based on being takers. IMHO

When I read Kerry's resignation, I saw a person who was hurt, disappointed, and a little disgusted that 20+ years of giving was being destroyed by 1 radical taker. I also believe that he felt that it is no longer "worth" subjecting his family and community to the foolishness of this world this situation was generating. Again, just my opinion! The SJW better be careful what they wish for, because a room full of takers will never agree.
Until the givers outnumber the takers again, we are in for an uncertain future. Thanks for listening!

    1. Very well said! It's sad to see this happen to a good man like Mr. Crews. I've met him on quite a few occasions (not always in the best of circumstances). I doubt he has any idea who I am, but I hope someone sends this article to him so he knows there are some of us out here who care about him & care about people knowing the truth.

As far as Ms. Ponder, I hope she reads my article too. And I hope one of these days she quits "taking" long enough to give Mr. Crews the apology he deserves.

  9. Ponder's accusations and charges were dropped as well. What matters is that he sent a person to jail based on "hear say" by taking the word of his friend vs. evidence. That is the good olé boy system and that was his mistake! I don't feel sorry for him. His career will continue since he was allowed a lateral move. Your article is bias. If you're going to report, be accurate.

    1. Pomder's charges were dropped because thenwhole thing just became a giant pain in the ass - not because she was innocent. And I think it would be ignorant to believe that her time as an intern for the District Attorney's office didn't help her as well.

Since you seem so concerned about truth & accuracy, I need to point out that you are making an untrue statement. Ms. Ponder was not arrested based on "hear say" or because of what his friend told him. She was arrested for acting like a fool & trying to fight off the officers when they were detaining her for questioning. Until that point, she wasn't under arrest. And if she hadn't pulled the race card & turned this into something that it wasn't, she would have gone home & Chief Crews wouldn't have decided to resign.

I am reporting accurately - you are an idiot.

    2. You are a joke, articulating your point calmly is acting a fool? Asking to be let go and not grabbed because you're cooperating is fighting the police? I've never in my life seen a police officer let go of an unruly person and let them stand their and voice their opinion, that itself goes against you absurd claim she was unruly and fighting arrest, lmao

  10. Well written well said great article and truth. She lied she falsely accused so can we believe anything she says? Do we really know if any racial slurs were ever said? i dont trust her as far as i can throw her.

    1. My personal opinion is that she lied about the racial slur. I believe she was upset about the slow vehicle in front of her, so she probably swerved around them & made a rude comment or gesture. Then when things escalated, she felt the need to make herself out as the victim. She is obviously a hot head. Witnesses said that after she was in the back of the police car, she freaked out & started acting crazy, yelling & pounding on the door/window.

Also, I have seen the police report & the statements in the report back up the opinion I stated above.

    3. Not sure what was said to who as far as name-calling but putting myself in her situation. I would have never allowed someone in plain clothing to tell me to do anything especially if you ain't on duty and I haven't broken any laws. You can't stop an individual from saying whatever they need to say. But you shouldn't be detained or locked up because someone felt like you disrespected them that is abusing your Authority and none of you should be allowed to Serve and Protect because that's not what you doing. And it's unfortunate that people like you make it hard for good offices

    4. Well guess what; that person in plain nclithing was a police officer & showed his badge, so she didn't have a choice. But regardless of that, the uniformed officer who SHE called, also showed up & she wouldn't do what he said either.

I find it odd that I have to keep stating this, since it is so obvious, but SHE WAS NOT DETAINED/ARRESTED FOR DISRESPECTING HIM! She was disrespectful, to all of the officers, & probably to the original gentleman too. But she was arrested for refusing to comply with the orders of the uniformed officer. She is a fool.

But if I was a hot headed little girl who was only interested in lying & turning this into a racial issue, & then acted the way that she acted, then I would deserve to go to jail.

    1. No, plenty of people have said what she was arrested for. It was for resisting arrest. They were detaining her (not arresting her) to ask questions, since both she & Beene had called the police. But rather than talk to them, she became rude, unruly, & refused to comply with their orders. That is when she was placed under arrest. Then once she was handcuffed & placed in the car, then she started screaming, cursing & beating on the door & window.

      Delete
    2. Why was she being arrested if she did not commit a crime??? She answered questions once detained like she should have. Then the uniformed officer showed up and put her in handcuffs immediately? Why? What were they ordering her to do if she had not done anything to break the law? This article is completely biased. And why has no one addressed the underaged driver who CLEARLY was breaking the law? No mention of this whatsoever.

      Delete
    3. Have you even read the article or the comments that I & others have responded to? She didn't answer questions & refused to cooperate. All she had to do was cooperate with the police when she & everyone else were being questioned. If she had done that she wouldn't have been arrested.

And again, as I have stated MANY times in these comments, THE GIRL WHO WAS DRIVING WAS NOT UNDERAGE. SHE WAS 15 & HAD A VALID LEARNER'S PERMIT.

The only person who broke the law was Ms. Ponder...I'm sorry if that doesn't fit your pre-conceived belief that all police officers are racist.

      Delete
  13. The issue, as you state is they arrested her for "resisting arrest" when they weren't arresting her. Believe it or not, it is similar to what happened with Sandra Bland. The officer (Chief Crews) had no genuine cause to effect an arrest other than he being a cop. He made a bad call and should, must be held accountable for that call!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, she wasn't "under arrest". She was "being detained" until the officers could sort out what happened. But rather than just simply following the officers' orders, she started acting like a beligerant fool. Please also remember that there are details of her arrest that have not yet been released due to pending lawsuits.

As far as Chief Crews' involvement here, he was off duty & just happened to be there. His friend asked him to help resolve the ordeal & so Crews tried unsuccessfully to intervene. I would say that he probably didn't expect Ms. Ponder to act so unruly.

Chief Crews did nothing wrong. Maybe it was wrong to arrest Ms. Ponder, but those officers had to make a judgment call on the best way to handle the situation. Her charges were dropped, so it doesn't matter. But for you to blame Crews for any of this, is just plain ignorance.

      Delete
    2. Because there was no reason to detain her just because he didn't like that she didn't apologize or cause she could care less that he had a 14 year old driving on the road. Give me a break please stop making excuses for these people who are using poor judgement and abusing their power that's supposed to serve us and protect us but instead they're hurting us they're making it hard for us to trust any officer when we're supposed to be able to depend on them to save our lives from some of these monsters that are walking around. Will take a look around they are the monsters

      Delete
    3. There was plenty of reason to detain her, & it had nothing to do with her not apologizing. Are you dumb? Everyone knows that her original statement about Crews being the person in the truck, was incorrect. Everyone also knows that the girl who was driving, was 15 & had a valid learners permit.

Police officers are there to protect & serve, & that is exactly what Chief Crews & the other officer were trying to do. Two parties had an altercation & both called the police. The police showed up to try & resolve the dispute. If she had just acted like a normal mature person, she would have gone home that night rather than spending the evening in the Commerce jail.

  14. This article and your responses are hilarious. I hope you dont have a position in this world to make any decisions that require logic and unbiased opinions. Glad the cop no longer has a job, he clearly didnt have the mental fortitude and decision making skills to be a Chief of anything,(probably why he is an assistant now, need some training on decision making from someone more experienced in his new role.) The SJW did exactly what they should of here, virtually cast judgement upon the chief and the clown who thought he was in the right just like they cast judgement upon this young girl, who at the most was annoyed with the situation and under control voicing her opinions to the police when they came.(Video clearly shows that, not some unruly person resisting arrest as you claim, Lmao, comical) You should lose your job for coming to that conclusion with what was on that video, hope you arent in Analytics or Strategy for any company in America, they are screwed, and if you are do yourself and them a favor and ask for a labor job, youll save them money and headaches in the future. They didnt even have the right to detain her based on two goof balls word(who clearly cant think critically about their decisions). He should of took a neutral position listened to both sides asked the other dude to calm down, who was way more aggressive in nature and thought he could put his hands on her. Come on man seriously?, you think his actions were justified and it had to reach the point of her getting arrested, ridiculous who cares what privilege you got in College you clown, that holds no bearing on whats happening in this situation. Glad he lost his job, hope you lose yours and hope this continues to happen to any idiot that jumps to conclusions and feels their skin color gives them a upper hand in these situations.

But that aside, I did my research, read/watched all accounts of the story, read the police report, & spoke to people who were close to the situation. Based on all of that information, I formed an educated opinion; something that you clearly don't have. If you hate cops so much, that's fine. But don't call them when you're in danger. And if you do call them, yes, you have to remain calm & follow their orders when they show up. If you disrespect them & act like a fool, you just might get arrested.

If Crews has admitted to having an "emotional" response that lead to the arrest and clarified that is was not about race or gender.... why are you still acting as if he was blameless? He basically admitted The arrrest was a farce. He over reacted and has taken responsibility of it... things happen. Why peddle your opinion as fact?
Now... Ponder is milking his mistake, no doubt about that. But her reaction post arrest does not validate what he did. I'd be upset too if my rights were infringed upon.
Your article should be more of the heat to the councilman who got him into this mess. The one who was actively breaking the law immediately before the incident.
Crews has gotten a lot of recognition from the local black community recently so it sounds like maybe he is a good person who had a bad day. Let's call it what it is. Please?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think it's safe to say that everyone involved in the situation was emotional. But he didn't say or do anything that would justify him losing his job. Ponder is the one who escalated the situation. No one but Ponder & her supporters said that the arrest was a "farce". It wasn't. It was 100% justified because of her response & refusal to cooperate.

Her rights were not infringed upon. At all. Not even a little.

You say that I should focus on the councilman (Mr. Beene), since he was "actively breaking the law". Ok, so what was he doing that was illegal? And don't say he was letting his underage daughter drive, because it's already been proven by multiple accounts that she was 15 (not 14) & had a valid learner's permit.

At the very most, the only thing Beene "might" have done wrong, is use a racial slur & then escalate the situation by following her car into the lot & confronting her. That is only if Ponder's story was accurate, which I have trouble believing. But if she told the truth about those two parts of the story, then Beene was wrong. BUT, neither of those acts are illegal.

The only person here who broke the law, is Ms. Ponder.

      Delete
    2. So in a normal situation, two people would have shared words and gone about their business. Why did Crews feel like he needed to get involved when apparently this did not concern him? No law was being broken. Poor judgement on his end and an unfortunate ending for everyone. But you won't admit that because this article clearly is biased towards supporting Crews.

      Delete
    3. Because both parties involved called the police. Crews just happened to be there before the dispatched officers who were on duty showed up. Considering he was the police chief, I'm sure he felt obligated to help out in resolving the dispute. Looking back, I'm sure he wishes he didn't. But that doesn't mean he did anything wrong. He just wouldn't have gotten stuck in the middle.

And you are absolutely right - I am biased toward Crews. I never claimed to be unbiased. But, I did my research, watched all the videos, read the police reports & affidavits, & spoke to some people who know the parties involved. Being biased doesn't mean I'm wrong. It just means that I have a different opinion than you. And unlike the majority of the people who disagree with me, my opinion is based on facts.
